Last night, I noticed a tweet from the Toronto Public Library account about a book sale that they are having. For two weekends in a row, there are book sales being hosted at Book Ends. There are two locations. This particular weekend (Thursday, September 8 to Saturday, September 10), the sale is at the North York Central Public Library.
I was a little confused by what they meant by “half price” cause half off regular price books are a good bargain but not exactly a steal. However, usually Book Ends at this location sells their book for 50 cents to $1. They also have a selection of special priced books for more recently released books and collections. For example, I noticed a collection of mismatched Harry Potter books for $50. For their huge half price sale, you get half price off this discount price. Which is pretty amazing.
The selection of books isn’t enormous but with a little effort and dedication as you browse, there is something for everyone. As was obvious by the small crowd in the book store when I arrived. It’s possible to find books in really great, slightly used conditions if you’re a little more picky about your thrift finds like I am. I would suggest heading there today if you’re in the area. Or tomorrow during the day as I believe that Saturday may be super busy.
The opening hours for the sale this weekend are:
- Thursday, September 8 from 10 am to 4 pm
- Friday, September 9 from 10 am to 4 pm
- Saturday, September 10 from 10 am to 4 pm
I managed to find five great books and I got all of them for just $2.50! Each book is in great condition – a few, almost like new. And I was super pleased that none of them have those library stickers and binding on them – which may indicate that they were donated to the library as opposed to being taken off the library shelves.
I’m considering heading to Book Ends Clearance Sale at the Toronto Reference Library next week if possible. If you’re interested, the opening hours are:
- Thursday, September 15 from 9:30 am to 7 pm
- Friday, September 16 from 9:00 am to 6 pm
- Saturday, September 17 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

If you find yourself at the sale this weekend, I’d love to know what books you found and added to your TBR pile!
